Center
for International Policy
The Center for International Policy is a nonprofit educational and research organization promoting a U.S. foreign policy based on international cooperation, demilitarization and respect for basic human rights. The Center's Cuba Project seeks to foster a U.S. Cuba policy that protects our national security, trade interests, and American citizens' fundamental rights to freedom of movement and association. The Cuban people benefit from the openings in Cuban society created by increased trade and travel contacts with Americans. If the U.S. seeks to support a more open Cuban society, the current outdated isolationist U.S. approach does nothing to further that goal. We hope to educate the public and promote a U.S. policy that 1) begins to dismantle the embargo, 2) initiates a dialogue with the Cuban government, 3) lifts travel controls, and 4) carries us eventually toward a full normalization of relations.
Cuban American
Alliance Education Fund
The Cuban American Alliance Education Fund, Inc. (CAAEF or The Alliance) is a nonprofit national network of Cuban Americans that educates on issues related to hardships caused by current United States-Cuba relations. The Alliance is a vehicle for the development of mutually beneficial engagement between the U.S. and Cuba that promotes understanding and human compassion. Working outside ideological constraints, in compliance with U.S. law, and respectful of Cuba's sovereignty and independence, CAAEF calls for a reassessment of U.S. policies that may currently be outside the best interests of the American people and cause undue harm to Cubans and Americans. Latin
America Working Group
The Latin America
Working group (LAWG) is one of the nation’s longest-standing coalitions
dedicated to foreign policy. We seek to ensure that U.S. policies
toward Latin America and the Caribbean are grounded in a respect for
the basic human rights of all people. As a coalition, LAWG represents
the interests of over 60 national religious, humanitarian, grassroots,
and policy organizations to decision-makers in Washington. We are
a trusted voice in Congress, and provide reliable guidance to policymakers
who want their decisions to be grounded in the promotion of human
rights, justice and sustainability. We believe that it is time for
the United States to develop a new policy approach towards Cuba that
would benefit both the Cuban people and the American people. In addition
to bridging the gap between our peoples, engagement with Cuba would
benefit Americans by honoring our desire to respond to humanitarian
needs, by restoring the freedom of travel to U.S. citizens, by removing
agricultural sanctions that unfairly punish U.S. farmers and ranchers,
and by making Cuba's groundbreaking medical technology available for
import.
Washington
Office on Latin America
The Washington Office on Latin America (WOLA) is a nonprofit
that promotes human rights, democracy and social and economic justice
in Latin America and the Caribbean. Founded in 1974 by a coalition
of religious and civic leaders, WOLA works closely with civil society
organizations and government officials throughout the hemisphere.
In our view, U.S. policy toward Cuba has not been formulated on the
basis of sound judgments about strategies that will best promote human
rights and social justice on the island, but on the basis of outdated
Cold War ideology and special interest group politics. We believe
that the embargo hurts domestic U.S. economic and political interests
without bringing us any foreign policy benefits. We believe that engagement
with Cuba is a more sensible, effective, and humane strategy for promoting
human rights and social justice there, and that engagement would also
be economically beneficial to the United States.
