Text of the Reporting Requirement for Defense Department Counter-Drug Activities


This provision appears as:

  • Section 1022 of P.L. 106-398, the 2001 National Defense Authorization Act
  • Section 1022 of P.L. 107-107, the 2002 National Defense Authorization Act
  • Section 1021 of P.L. 109-163, the 2006 National Defense Authorization Act

As amended, the reporting requirement appears as follows:

REPORT ON DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE EXPENDITURES TO SUPPORT FOREIGN COUNTER-DRUG ACTIVITIES.

Not later than April 15, 2006, the Secretary of Defense shall submit to the congressional defense committees a report detailing the expenditure of funds by the Secretary during the preceding fiscal year in direct or indirect support of the counter-drug activities of foreign governments. The report shall include the following for each foreign government:

(1) The total amount of assistance provided to, or expended on behalf of, the foreign government.

(2) A description of the types of counter-drug activities conducted using the assistance.

(3) A description of each base of operation or training facility established, constructed, or operated using the assistance, including any minor construction projects carried out using such assistance, and the amount of assistance expended on base of operations and training facilities.

(4) An explanation of the legal authority under which the assistance was provided.
