Foreign Military Sales (FMS): Chile

High-technology weapons sales

In August 1997, the Clinton Administration lifted a twenty-year-old moratorium (officially called a “presumption of denial”) on sales of high-technology weapons, such as attack jets, to Latin America. This allowed Chile to agree to purchase ten F-16 fighter aircraft in 2002, which as of 2003 had yet to be delivered.
