16 Weeks MASL D141257 STUDENT LOAD: MIN: 6 MAX: 15 PREREQUITES: 1. Open to airman basic through officers who will be assigned to the helicopter maintenance field. 2. Entrance examinations: a. General aptitude: Minimum raw score of 20 b. Mechanical aptitude: Minimum raw score of 20 3. Utility uniform, battle dress uniform, or equivalent is required. 4. Physical condition: a. Normal vision (20/20 with or without glasses) b. Normal color vision c. Normal hearing d. Normal manual dexterity COURSE OBJECTIVE This course provides the student with the necessary apprentice level training on how to inspect, service, repair, functionally check system and perform preventive maintenance on helicopter aircraft and related equipment. SPECIALTY DESCRIPTION a. FUNDAMENTALS. Demonstrate knowledge of electrical theory, theory of flight, engine operating principals, use of technical manuals, tool and repair parts lists, and use and care of hand tools and special tools. b. PERFORM INSPECTIONS AND PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE ON HELICOPTERS AND RELATED SYSTEMS. Perform planned and special inspections on UH-1 helicopter structure, rotor assemblies, transmission, landing gear, engines, flight controls, instruments and hydraulic, electrical and fuel systems. Clean helicopter, inspect for corrosion, alignment, proper clearance, and looseness using feeler gage, micrometer, tensiometer, universal protractor, and other special tools. c. REPAIR, MAINTAIN, AND SERVICE HELICOPTERS AND RELATED SYSTEMS. Remove and reinstall items such as rotor hubs, rotor blades, gearboxes, driveshafts, engine, landing gear, tubing, hoses, cowling and access panels. Tow, park and moor helicopter. Lubricate helicopter rotor assemblies and helicopters in general. Service aircraft systems (e.g. fuel, engine, and transmission oil, and hydraulic fluid) COURSE DESCRIPTION BLOCK I - GENERAL FAMILIARIZATION (38 hours) Course orientation, ground safety awareness, use of maintenance directive and reference, and helicopter maintenance organization and inspection system. BLOCK II - GENERAL HELICOPTER MAINTENANCE (84 hours) Use of common and special tools, identifying aircraft hardware and securing devices, aircraft support equipment, recognize corrosion and perform corrosion control, ground handling and care of helicopters in extreme conditions, general servicing, landing gear servicing, and familiarization of the UH-1 helicopter. BLOCK III - UH-1 HELICOPTER SYSTEMS (56 hours) Familiarization and repair of hydraulic, electrical, lighting, instruments, utility, and fuel systems. BLOCK IV - UH-1 HELICOPTER POWERPLANT AND DRIVE SHAFT (50 hours) Operating theory of the turbine engine, T-53-L-13B engine theory and operating principal, function and location of T-53 engine systems and components, main drive shaft maintenance procedures, remove and install main drive shaft and T-53 engine. BLOCK V - MAIN AND TAIL ROTOR SYSTEM FAMILIARIZATION (62 hours) Main rotor familiarization, removal and installation of the stabilizer bar, the main rotor head and blades, align main rotor blades, perform stabilizer bar damper timing check, tail rotor familiarization, removal, installation and balancing of the tail rotor, helicopter vibrations and there effects in flight. BLOCK VI. POWER TRAIN SYSTEM (68 hours) Familiarization, removal, and installation of main rotor mast, main transmission, main transmission input drive quill, and removal, installation, and inspection of tail rotor drive shafts and hanger assemblies, and 42o and 90o gearboxes. BLOCK VII - FLIGHT CONTROL SYSTEM FAMILIARIZATION AND RIGGING (62 hours) Familiarization and inspection of all flight controls to include rigging of collective, cyclic, tail rotor, and synchronized elevator system. |
