The following
description of the IMET program for Chile comes from the U.S. State Department's
April 2002 FY2003 Congressional Budget Justification for Foreign Operations:1
The
FY 2003 request for International Military Education and Training (IMET)
funding will be used to bolster regional stability and democracy by
contributing to GOC [Government of Chile] efforts to professionalize
its armed forces and increase their interoperability with U.S. forces
through the continuation of management training courses for NCOs, mid-level
officers, and senior officers. Other training in equipment maintenance,
logistics, and resources management also increases Chile’s ability to
maintain U.S. equipment in its inventory. We have sought increased interoperability
as supporting Chilean participation in international peacekeeping operations
and other regional exercises.
IMET
courses taken by Chilean personnel, 2001:2
Funding amounts
and numbers of students may not match the numbers indicated in the table
on the main IMET page. This owes to (1) discrepancies
between two Department of Defense source documents, and/or (2) the possibility
that some students took more than one course.

IMET
courses taken by Chilean personnel, 1998:5
The total
number of students may not match the number indicated in the table on
the main IMET page. This owes to either (1) discrepancies
between two Department of Defense source documents, or (2) the possibility
that some students took more than one course.
