IMET: Suriname
The following description of the IMET program for Suriname comes from the U.S. State Department's April 2002 FY2003 Congressional Budget Justification for Foreign Operations:1

The United States will use its International Military Education and Training (IMET) funds for projects that promote civilian control of the Surinamese armed forces, increase military professionalism, and expose Surinamese military personnel to U.S. norms and values with respect to the appropriate military role in democratic society.


IMET courses taken by Suriname personnel, 2000:2

Funding amounts and numbers of students may not match the numbers indicated in the table on the main IMET page. This owes to (1) discrepancies between two Department of Defense source documents, and/or (2) the possibility that some students took more than one course.
