Patrol
Craft Operator - MASL P145901:
Purpose: Provide the student basic training necessary to safely operate a small craft in coastal and riverine waterways during the day and night time hours. Length/Scope: 8-week course focuses on patrol craft organization, nautical terminology, rules of the road, patrol craft safety and emergency procedures, basic marlinespike seamanship, navigation, engineering and small craft handling. Extensive underway time is provided with outboard powered patrol boats. Special Information: Students should be familiar with small craft operations and possess normal color vision. At a minmum students should be qualified as a 3rd class swimmer. A US NAVY swim test will be administered on the first day of training. Patrol Craft Propulsion System Maintenance - MASL P145902:Purpose: Provide the student with the basic training necessary to extend the service lifecycle of small craft diesel engines. Length/Scope: 8-Week course is designed to provide the student with basic knowledge of diesel engine characteristics and specifications, operating principles, lubrication, cooling, air and fuel systems. The student will also tools, precision measuring, troubleshooting, safety, casualty control and preventive maintenance procedures. Students will learn how to utilize factory service manuals to gain practical application expertise. Practical exercises will be conducted on the Detroit Diesel 6V92 engine. Students will perform a clutch change overhaul on a twin disc marine transmission. Upon meeting the course objectives the student will be knowledgeable in diesel engine maintenance procedures. Special Information: Students should be familiar with engineering duties and exhibit average mechanical ability. Patrol Craft Hull Maintenance - MASL P145903:
Length/Scope: 8-Week course consists of instruction in hand tools, oxyacetylene welding and cutting, electric arc welding, aluminum MIG welding, fiberglass repair, and inflatable boat repair. Practical applications of techniques are employed in all areas of instruction to accomplish course objectives. Special Information: In addition to general prerequisites, students should be familiar with engineering or repair duties and possess normal color vision. Outboard Motor Maintenance and Overhaul - MASL P145906:
Length/Scope: 8-Week course consists of instruction in outboard motor design and construction, internal combustion theory, preventative and corrective maintenance, overhaul, troubleshooting, and operation. Also included is basic instruction in the use of tools (hand, powered, precision, and special), sealants, lubricants, cleaning agents, and shop safety. Practical application techniques train the student how to reference the manufacturer's technical manual utilizing the OMC 150HP outboard motors as training aids. Special Information: In addition to general prerequisites,
students should be familiar with engineering duties and exhibit average
mechanical aptitude. Patrol Craft Weapons Maintenance –- MASL P145904:
Length/Scope:4-Week course consists of instruction in various individual small arms and patrol craft mounted weapons to include the M16 rifle, M60 Machine gun, M2 .50 Cal machine gun, MK19 Mod 3 40MM Machine gun, Model 1911 .45 Caliber pistol, 9MM caliber pistol, M79 grenade launcher and the M203 grenade launcher. Practical application techniques including disassembly, inspection, cleaning, and troubleshooting on all weapons are employed to accomplish course objectives. For additional training requirements in non-US inventory weapons or weapons not listed contact NAVSCIATTS. Special Information: In addition to general prerequisites,
students should be familiar weapons maintenance duties and exhibit average
mechanical aptitude. This four week course is ideally suited as a follow
on course to a basic or advanced eight week course. Patrol Craft Propulsion Systems Overhaul – MASL P145907:
Length/Scope: 8-Week Course consists of detailed instruction in 6V92 Detroit diesel engine specifications and characteristics, operating principles, lubrication systems, electrical systems, cooling systems, air systems, fuel systems and their interdependent relationship. Practical application techniques include the complete overhaul (disassembly, cleaning, inspection, repair and re-assembly, correct engine performance and troubleshooting) of the rebuilt engine. Special Information: In addition to general prerequisites,
students should be familiar with engineering or repair duties, exhibit
average mechanical aptitude. Completion of the Patrol Craft Propulsion
Systems Maintenance course is required or equivalent experience. Patrol Craft Commander – MASL P145908:
Length/Scope: 8-week course consists of classes in basic life support and first-aid, boat handling, boat crew organization, navigation and coastal piloting, board and search principles, maritime law, damage control techniques, and mission planning. Practical application includes use of outboard motor patrol craft. The final training exercise is designed to test the skills gained in all portions of the course and culminates with a long range patrol boat transit. Special Information:In addition to general prerequisites,
students should be familiar with or programmed for command of a patrol
craft, possess normal color vision, have completed the Patrol Craft Operators
course or have equivalent experience. At a minmum students should be qualified
as a 3rd class swimmer. A US NAVY swim test will be administered on the
first day of training. Patrol Craft Operations/Riverine Environment – MASL P145909:
Length/Scope: 8-week course consists of instruction in riverine unit organization and missions, overview of riverine patrol craft engineering and component systems, and mission planning procedures including navigation, communications, weapons, riverine patrol plans, emergency drills, combat first aid and maritime law enforcement. Extensive practical applications are employed to accomplish course objectives. Special Information: In addition to the general prerequisites,
students should be familiar with small craft operations, possess normal
color vision, and have completed Patrol Craft Operator or Patrol Craft
Commanders course or have equivalent experience to receive full benefits
of this course. At a minmum students should be qualified as a 3rd class
swimmer. A US NAVY swim test will be administered on the first day of
training. Instructor Development Course – MASL P145905:
Length/Scope: 2-Week course consists of planning learning objectives, development of lesson topic guides, instruction methods and techniques, effective classroom communication with an emphasis on practical applications. Student will give a minimum of four practical oral presentations, that will be video taped and critiqued. Special Information: This course is designed for the student
who has completed a NAVSCIATTS course and will be assigned to a supervisory
or instructor position. Students will utilize information from the completed
NAVSCIATTS course as source material for practical application within
the Instructor Development Course.
