The Center's MissionFounded in 1975, the Center for International Policy is a nonprofit educational and research organization promoting a U.S. foreign policy based on international cooperation, demilitarization and respect for basic human rights. In recent years, the Center has worked to correct problems caused by the militarization of U.S. policy toward Colombia and sub-Saharan Africa and the irrational ban on trade with and travel to Cuba. CIP promotes reform of the overly politicized U.S. intelligence system and is challenging the Bush administration's proposed invastion of Iraq with an Iraq Policy Information Campaign. A joint project with the Latin America Working Group documents U.S. military assistance to the Western Hemisphere. CIP's Asia program challenges the Bush administration policy of confrontation with North Korea while turning a blind eye toward Pakistan's role in North Korea's acquisition of nuclear weapons. It also promotes U.S. support for long-term nation building in Afghanistan. |
