International Maritime Officer Course (IMOC) (No. P171575, 13 weeks) |
Location:Coast Guard Reserve Training Center, Yorktown, VA Scope1Provides study in the organization, planning, management and operations of a multi-mission maritime force, and is designed to enhance the preparation of or as a refresher for selected mid-grade (0-2 to 0-4) maritime officers and civilian equivalent for command duty both afloat and ashore. The course provides study in the organization, planning, management and operation of a multi-mission maritime force or service responsible for maritime law enforcement, marine safety and marine environmental protection, and national security. The program will allow students to become acquainted with the rules, customs, and traditions which govern an officer corps, the value of personal qualities and characteristics which demonstrate the importance of honor and integrity, and provide leadership and management skills to allow them to serve as an effective manager. Topics which will be taught in the course include law of the sea and international treaties; search and rescue execution and coordination; port safety and security; environmental protection; maritime legislation; shiphandling and seamanship; commanding officer and executive officer functions; leadership and management; resource management; nautical science; naval engineering; quality management; performance appraisal and feedback systems; authority, accountability, and responsibility. Field trips will be taken to enhance the students' understanding of the topical objectives. The target audience for this course includes supervisory personnel working in or supporting any maritime agency, individuals preparing for increased responsibility or officer progression, maritime personnel who are or will be working with other maritime or maritime-related agencies within their own country, or with another country's maritime force. The course is especially suited for individuals who are currently or will likely become commanding officers, executive officers, group-level commanders or administrative support (finance, manpower) personnel.
