Policy Intern

The unpaid policy intern will develop an understanding of illicit capital flight and how it deepens poverty for millions of people worldwide. He/she must demonstrate initiative, strong organizational skills, attention to detail, solid writing abilities and an interest in development issues and the challenges facing poor countries.

The policy intern is typically assigned an independent research project which he/she is expected to work and report on throughout the internship period; however, other basic responsibilities include:

  • assisting the Director and Managing Director by conducting research on money laundering, tax evasion, corruption and the banking structure that supports these activities;
  • assisting the Managing Director by conducting web-based data collection on foundations; and
  • occasionally assisting the Office Manager with general administrative tasks.

Requirements include:

  • proficient with Microsoft Office Suite;
  • strong writing and research skills;
  • ability to successfully work independently with minimal supervision;
  • interest in capital flight and its effect on capitalism, development, and security; and
  • non-English language skills are preferred, especially French and/or Spanish, but not required.

Outreach and Communications Intern

The unpaid communications will help promote GFI’s message and research in the media and online.  In addition to assisting the Media team with daily operations, duties include:

  • Managing daily news digest: compiling relevant current pertaining to GFI issues and distributing to supporters
  • Fact checking media materials; occasionally drafting and laying out statements, op-eds, press releases, and website content
  • Conducting research and compiling statistics for editorial and web materials
  • Assisting with the organization’s viral media and social networking operations
  • Contributing to organizational blog

Qualifications include:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Familiarity with Google News
  • Strong writing and web-based research skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Interest in international policy and global finance issues
  • Non-English language skills are preferred, especially French and/or Spanish, but not required

Must have at least two of the following:

  • Previous communications experience and/or Experience working with press
  • Experience writing blog pieces, or coordinating a blog with multiple contributors
  • Experience with social-networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube, preferably experience managing an organization’s page
  • Programming experience; knowledge of HTML PHP, CSS, and/or Javascript
  • Experienced with the Adobe Creative Suite

Task Force Intern

The Task Force on Financial Integrity and Economic Development (Task Force) is a unique global coalition of civil society organizations and more than 50 governments working together to address inequalities in the financial system that penalize billions of people.   The Task Force advocates five priorities – curtailment of mispricing in trade imports and exports; country-by-country reporting of sales, profits, and taxes paid by multinational corporations; confirmation of beneficial ownership in all banking and securities accounts; automatic cross-border exchange of tax information; and harmonization of predicate offenses under anti-money laundering laws – each one focusing on transparency.

The unpaid Task Force Intern reports to the Task Force Coordinator and the Task Force Outreach Coordinator. He/she must demonstrate initiative, strong organizational skills, attention to detail, solid writing abilities and an interest in development issues and the challenges facing poor countries.

In addition to developing an understanding of the Task Force priority issues, the Task Force intern will assist in the planning and coordination of the Annual Task Force conference.  Other basic responsibilities include:

  • Tracking news feeds, press mentions, and currents events about/related to Task Force Members and Allied Organizations
  • Assist with management of Task Force Allied Organization database
  • Assist Task Force Coordinator and Outreach Coordinator in day to day program management

Requirements include:

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite;
  • Strong writing and research skills;
  • Ability to successfully work independently with minimal supervision;
  • Interest in capital flight and its effect on capitalism, development, and security

Preferred skills

  • Non-English language skills, especially French and/or Spanish
  • Experience with Microsoft Access
