DoD News Briefing
Mr. Kenneth H. Bacon ASD PA
Thursday, March 23, 2000 - 2:00 p.m.
Q: A different subject?
MR. BACON: Sure.
Q: I haven't checked into this this morning, but the last I heard the
supplemental -- the Kosovo and Colombia supplemental was held up on the
Hill. Could you talk about -- has that changed any?
MR. BACON: Well, my understanding is that the House will act on it next
week, and then it will be taken up by the Senate Appropriations Committee.
Secretary Cohen has sent Senator Lott a letter urging rapid passage of
the supplemental, noting that a long delay will have a deleterious impact
on Army readiness in particular by forcing the Army to dip into operations
and maintenance funds in order to pay the costs of Kosovo. Some of the
supplemental would cover the costs of the Kosovo mission. So --
Q: When was that letter sent?
MR. BACON: The letter was yesterday, and I'd be glad to -- you can get
a copy from Sue Hansen in DDI.
