Speech
by Rep. Dennis J. Kucinich (D-Ohio), July 24, 2001
Mr.
Chairman, I want to thank the gentleman from Michigan for calling this to
the attention of the House and to agree with him in saying that aerial fumigation
is not going to solve Latin America's poverty problem, it sure is not going
to deal with the drug addiction problems here at home; but what it is accomplishing
is it is ruining farmers' land, it is damaging the health of farming families,
and it is damaging their livestock.
Surely the work that
is being suggested by many leaders, which is basically a manual inspection
of crops, is preferable to an aerial fumigation that wreaks havoc on land
and human health. So I want to thank the gentleman for his attention to
this and indicate my support for those efforts.
