The
UN Special Rapporteur on the Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms
of Indigenous peoples, Rodolfo Stavenhagen, visited Colombia
to prepare a report on the situation of indigenous groups in southern
Putumayo and Cauca. Specifically, he will be looking at human
rights abuses and the effects of the armed conflict on indigenous
communities. Additionally, he met with government officials, indigenous
communities, civil organizations, UN representatives and members
of the diplomatic community.
In an effort to coordinate operations, the commander of the Southern
Naval Force, Captain Juan Antonio Rairán González,
visited the 27th Jungle Brigade headquarters in Mocoa. Captain
González went to analyze the security situation in the
region, and to assess the impact that the current military strategy
is having on combating terrorism.
