Chavez Is Willing To Offer Venezuela For Dialogues With The Eln, April 18, 2001

Cartagena, D.C., April 18, 2001 (ANCOL). -

Hugo Chavez, President of Venezuela, has showed willing to offer his country´s territory as a setting for the dialogues between the Colombian Government and the ELN, but only if both parts request it.

Concerning this issue Chavez declared: "We are willing, but always in common agreement with the parts, with the ELN and the Government, to attend this request made by sectors of the Colombian society. We are in our duty to listen and attend it. I don´t know the details but I respond to any request that points toward an integral peace process in Colombia, we are inour duty to listen, for ethics, for affection and fellowship towards the Colombian people. To attend it and hopefully to cooperate with it"

At his arrival in Cartagena to participate in the meeting with the Andean Presidents, Chavez renewed his support to the peace process in Colombia an he said he saw "with faith and hope," the negotiations with Farc and with the ELN. At the same time he highlighted the role played by Venezuela in this process, specially in the Farc´s case.
