Jan
18-20--5,000 farmers converged on Tampa, FL for the annual American
Farm Bureau Federation convention. Workshops were given, prizes
awarded, and TV personality, Willard Scott, was on hand to rally
America's frmers. Dozens of exhibitors showed off their wares
and handed out samples, but the longest lines were at the End
the Embargo on Cuba booth, sponsored by CIP, LAWG, WOLA, and the
Cuban American Alliance. Hundreds stopped to sign a petition to
President Bush demanding an end the trade and travel ban.
(See the petition and sign it here.)
Over and over again, convention attendees told LAWG's Mavis Anderson,
WOLA's Rachel Farley, CIP's Anya Landau and the Cuban American
Alliance's Delvis Fernandez --that the embargo "doesn't make
any sense" and "should have been ended a long time ago."

Farmers
who visited the Cuba booth were excited to see their state in
the top 20 in food sales to Cuba, while others perused the list
of nearly 300 food
products that can be legally sold to Cuba.

Word
of the petition spread throughout the exhibit hall, and before
the weekend was over, nearly 600 farmers alone had signed the
petition. Many were already actively arranging sales to Cuba
or
state farm bureau delegations to Cuba.
